Senior Social Democrat Senator Calls for Government And Party Leader Resignations

Social Democrat senator Ecaterina Andronescu has urged party leader Liviu Dragnea and Prime Minister Viorica Dancila to resign.

Andronescu, a senior member of the Social Democratic Party (PSD), said in an open letter to her colleagues the country and the party are heading towards a “major disaster”, pointing towards growing social strife in the country, and added that it is the party’s responsibility to try and correct the situation.

Andronescu said Dragnea must “take a step back” for the good of the country and the party, else stating that the party risks losing the political power. She also criticized the Dancila Cabinet as being “unrepresentative”, asking for it to be replaced with a government of “super professionals”.

 

Romanian PM Meets With US Congress Delegation

Romanian PM Viorica Dancila met on Tuesday with a delegation of the US Congress, with the discussions revolving around the “future bilateral politic agenda” of Romanian and the US, according to the Romanian Government.

The US Congress delegation was led by the Chairman of the House Intelligence Committee Devin Nunes.

Among the topics discussed during the meeting were the development of the economic relation between Romania and the US, and the exploitation of the Black Sea offshore gas resources.

The Romanian prime minister told the delegation Romania will “continue to act as a responsible ally” and “actively contribute to promoting security in the Euro-Atlantic space and outside of it,” the government said in a statement.

 

Nine Romanian Counties Under Weather Warnings for Storms

Romanian meteorologists issued weather warnings expecting heavy storms in nine counties in the northern and central part of the country.

Storms are expected to hit counties Salaj, Bistrita-Nasaud, Maramures, Hunedoara, Caras-Severin, Alba, Sibiu, Suceava, and Cluj.
