USR To Elect New Party President After Nicusor Dan's Resignation

The Save Romania Union opposition party is set to elect a new leader early October after the resignation of Nicusor Dan.

No party member has announced plans to run for the position.

 

Romania Could Make Short-Range Missiles in Ploiesti

Romanian economy minister Mihai Fifor said Thursday in Ploiesti there are talks to manufacture short-range missiles at the local Electromecanica factory.

The factory currently makes anti-hail storm guns.

“We are in advanced talks with a foreign partner who would like to invest in new technology at Electromecanica Ploiesti and develop a project for missile production,” said Fifor.

 

Romania to Sign Memorandum To Produce 8X8 Military Vehicles

The government will sign a memorandum next week with a US company to produce 8X8 military vehicles, said economy minister Mihai Fifor.

The country already has a project to produce an 8X8 vehicle in Moreni, Dambovita county, in partnership with Rheinmetall.

The government will sign a memorandum with US General Dynamics for a similar vehicle to be produced in Bucharest.

Fifor added the vehicles will first be used to endow the Romanian army and will possibly exported later on.

 

Two Romanians Injured in Terror Attack in Barcelona

Romania's foreign affairs ministry announced two Romanian citizens were injured in the terror attack in Barcelona Thursday evening, which left 13 dead and dozens of others injured.

One of the Romanian victims was taken to hospital for emergency care and is in stable condition, authorities said.

Romanian Prime Minister Mihai Tudose expressed his regrets for the attack and said a crisis cell had been set up at the Romanian Embassy in Madrid and the consulate in  Barcelona was in permanent contact with local authorities.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of Barcelona and their families,” Tudose wrote on Facebook.
