PM Summoned To State Economic Impact of Swine Flu Epidemic

Liberal senator Iancu Caracota called on PM Viorica Dancila to urgently communicate the negative economic effects of deadly African swine fever outbreaks.

He also called on lower chamber head Liviu Dragnea to explain publicly why he refused to summon an extraordinary parliament meeting.

After hundreds of outbreaks, the disease has now been confirmed at Romania's largest pig breeding farm, the second-largest in Europe, and all 140,000 animals will be culled.

 

Justice Minister Tudorel Toader Calls for Evaluation Report on Prosecutor General

Justice minister Tudorel Toader announced Saturday he would call for a professional activity evaluation of prosecutor general Augustin Lazar.

Liberal Party leader Ludovic Orban said Toader is acting in the name of criminals running Romania seeking to dismiss the chief general prosecutor in the wake of investigations of police brutality at an anti-ruling party rally on Aug 10.

 

Weather Alert for Rain Expected in Western Half of Romania

Meteorologists issued a yellow code alert for heavy rain, storms and hail in 25 counties Sunday afternoon to Monday night. 

The weather stays hot throughout most of Romania on Monday and instability will intensify particularly in the western half of the region, leading to heavy rainfall of up to 40 liters/sqm and hailstorms.
