Romania Has Best Plan For European Medicines Agency Relocation

Romania's minister-delegate for EU affairs, Victor Negrescu, said the country has the best plan to relocate the European Medicines Agency, with low costs and a headquarters that could be operational immediately.

Negrescu said Romania has a very good chance to be accepted to host the EU institution.

“The headquarters we proposed is new, energy efficient, close to the subway, half an hour distance from the airport,” said Negrescu, adding the decision will be made through a vote, not solely based on technical criteria.

There are 19 states in the running to host the agency that will move its headquarters from London due to Brexit.

 

Romania Is Behind on Reforms, Can't Talk of Euro Accession

Romania has not completed the structural reforms it has undertaken and there can be no talk of eurozone accession until they are finalized, said Angela Filote, head of the EC representation.

She said there is no deadline for euro accession and the country will take this step when it is ready.

 

Romania To Distribute Farming Subsidies as of Oct 16

Romanian agriculture minister Petre Daea said farmers will start receiving advance subsidies as of October 16.

He said the budget for subsidies is EUR1 billion.

The minister said the European Commission has been informed that counties in the western part of the country have been affected by drought and there is a good chance for subsidies to be distributed as of mid-October.

 

Accounting, Retail Hire Pensioners for Part-Time Work

Accounting and retail are the fields that seek to hire pensioners for part-time work, HR specialists said.

In retail, especially on the supermarket segment, pensioners could work as part-time cashiers.

In accounting, companies choose to continue collaborating with employees who have reached retirement age.

The average number of pensioners in the first quarter of 2017 stood at 5.2 million, down 11,000 people compared with the previous quarter. The average monthly pension was RON1,016, according to statistical data.
