Weather Turns Cold, Snowfall, Mixed Precipitations Expected in Romania

Meteorologists issued a weather advisory expecting snowfall in mountain areas, mixed precipitations in the southern and eastern regions of Romania, and strong winds.

Temperatures throughout the country will continue to fall to below freezing at night.

Liberals To Challenge Constitutionality of Justice Laws

Liberal Party president Ludovic Orban said the party will challenge the justice bills at the Constitutional Court if they are voted in plenary.

The Liberal Party opposes any amendment introduced by the ruling coalition that weakens independence in the justice sector, he said.

He also called on the Hungarian minority party to stop rallying with the ruling coalition to pass these bills.

Romania Has 3.42 Million Farms Averaging 3.65 Hectares

In 2016, Romania had 3.42 million agricultural farms, 5.7% fewer than in 2013 and 11.3% fewer than established in 2010 according to an agricultural census.

The number of farms owned by individuals stood at 3.39 million. The number of farms set up as companies stood at 26,000, 6.4% fewer than in 2013, the statistics board said.

The average surface of farms stood at 3.65 ha in 2016, the data showed.

Romania Opened 15.4 km of Highway in 2017, 21 km More Nearly Done

Romania opened 15.4 km of highway to traffic in 2017, reaching a total 748 km, the country's roads and highways authority said.

It said 21 km of highway are nearly completed but cannot be opened to traffic yet.
