Leu Firms Vs Euro

The Romanian currency firmed Tuesday against the euro, gaining 0.1% on the day and posting a midday reference rate of 4.6519 units to the euro, the highest of the past two and a half months.

On Monday, the leu had lost ground to the euro, standing at 4.6566 units.

The leu also gained ground against the US dollar, which is quoted indirectly on the Romanian market. The leu stood at 4.0776 units to the dollar on Tuesday from 4.1042 units on Monday.

 

PM Dancila Seeks to Have Romania Accede to Euro Area in 2024

Prime minister Viorica Dancila said Tuesday her Cabinet will do everything it can for Romania to accede to the euro area in 2024.

“Romania has committed to join the euro area as soon as it meets all necessary requirements and we have recently set a time-frame for this goal, namely 2024,” Dancila said during a debate in Brussels organized by Aspen Romania.

 

Justice Minister To Notify Constitutional Court on Cabinet Reshuffle Issues

Justice minister Tudorel Toader said Tuesday he has drafted a notification to the Constitutional Court claiming a conflict between government and president over a recent Cabinet reshuffle.

Romania's ruling coalition has replaced several Cabinet members but president Klaus Iohannis, who must sign off on minister appointments, has declined the appointment of two nominees.
