Referendum And Decree 14 On Parliament Agenda This Week

The decree repealing changes to the criminal and criminal procedure codes and the referendum initiated by President Klaus Iohannis will be on the Parliament's agenda this week.

Social Democratic Party leader Liviu Dragnea has called for the swift adoption of decree 14/2017, which repeals the decree that sparked massive protests countrywide. (mediafax.ro)

 

PSD Iasi VP Calls On Mayor Chirica To Resign

Ovidiu Laicu, vice-president of the Iasi county chapter of the Social Democratic Party, has called on city mayor Mihai Chirica to resign and asked the party's national bureau to dismiss him from the position of party vice-president.

Laicu said he was not speaking on behalf of the party organization and it is his personal opinion that Chirica should resign for siding with the party's opponents over decree 13.

Laicu said the PSD Iasi organization is united but not to support Chirica, but the party and the Grindeanu Cabinet. (mediafax.ro)

 

Wind Overtakes Coal Power In Europe

Wind farm developers installed more power than any other form of energy last year in Europe, helping turbines to overtake coal in terms of capacity, industry figures show, Bloomberg reported.

European wind power grew 8%, to 153.7 gigawatts, comprising 16.7% of installed capacity and overtaking coal as the continent’s second-biggest potential source of energy, according to figures published Thursday by the WindEurope trade group.

Gas-fired generation retained the largest share of installed capacity.

With countries seeking to curb greenhouse gas emissions that causes climate change by replacing fossil fuel plants with new forms of renewable energy, investment in wind grew to a record EUR27.5 billion in 2016, WindEurope’s annual European Statistics report showed. (mediafax.ro)

 

Yellow Warning For Freezing Temperatures In Bucharest And 25 Counties

Romania's meteorology administration issued Sunday a yellow code warning for freezing temperatures expected in Bucharest and 25 counties in the eastern half of the country.

Minimum temperatures are seen dropping as low as -20 degrees Celsius and frost will settle in the targeted areas at night and in he morning.

Maximum temperatures will range between -7 and -3 degrees.

The warning is valid until February 14. (mediafax.ro)
