Receipt Lottery Continues in 2018, First Draw on Jan 21
The tax authority will continue its receipt lottery in 2018 and the first draw, for receipts issued Dec 1-31, 2017, will take place on January 21, the Finance Ministry said Thursday.
Prizes total RON1 million and will be distributed to maximum 100 winners.
National Road Sections Between Tulcea and Constanta Reopened
Road traffic has been reopened on all sections of the national road linking Tulcea and Constanta counties but restrictions remain for vehicles over 3.5 tons.
Several road sections had been closed due to bad weather, which led to low visibility. Also, several large vehicles unequipped for winter conditions blocked parts of the road, hindering the intervention of snow removal vehicles.
Education Ministry Launches Online Poll On 2018-2019 School Year Structure
The Education Ministry is conducting an online poll between January 18 and January 24 on the structure of the 2018-2019 school year and seeks answers from students, parents, and teachers.
The five-question poll seeks to collect opinions on when the school year should start, how long winter and spring breaks should be and the need for a break between school semesters.
President Challenges Constitutionality Of Bill Allowing MPs, Ministers To Own Private Companies
Romanian President Klaus Iohannis on Thursday challenged at the Constitutional Court a bill that allows lawmakers, ministers, prefects, and mayors to own private companies if they are registered as natural persons.
The President argues the bill lowers the standards of integrity and affects the rule of law and reminds the bill was rejected by the Senate on November 27, 2017, before being approved 180 to 86 by the Lower Chamber on December 20, 2017.
The bill would allow lawmakers, government members, prefects, deputy prefects, mayor and deputy mayors, as well as the leaders of the local and county councils to be traders registered as natural persons.
The piece of legislation was initiated by five lawmakers from Hungarian minority party UDMR.
