Three-Month Money Market Rate Stalls at 3.11% Monday

The three-month interbank interest rate ROBOR stayed at 3.11% on Monday, central bank data showed.

On Friday, the three-month rate reached 3.11%, its highest level since early December 2018.

The six-month rate was also stable Monday, at 3.34%, the data showed.

Central bank spokesman Dan Suciu said the finance ministry cashed regular taxes on Friday, draining some of the excess liquidity on the market, which pushed interbank rates towards 3.5%.

 

Romanian Leu Halts Free-Fall vs Euro

The Romanian leu gained a slight 0.04% on the day Monday, standing at 4.7628 units against the euro at midday.

By Friday, the leu had hit record lows eleven times in January alone.

 

Dacian Ciolos Tops EP Election List

Dacian Ciolos, Dragos Pislaru, and Dragos Tudorache are the top three candidates for the European Parliament on behalf of PLUS, the party decided Sunday.

EP elections take place on May 26.

Other PLUS candidates are Ramona Strugariu, Alin Cristian Mituta, Valeriu Nicolae, Oana Soiu, Liviu Sorin Iolu, Andrei Cristian Ion and Oana Popescu.
