Liberal Leader Vows to Change Wage Law

Liberal Party president Ludovic Orban said the party will amend the public sector wage law if it gets to lead the government, saying it is unsustainable and creates chaos.

He said the current law, promulgated last week, granted raises without prior analyses.

"It's a law that stirs up chaos and, sooner or later, it will suffer the same fate as the wage law adopted in 2010, when its coming into force kept being postponed,” said Orban.

Payments to Farmers to Start on October 15

Agriculture minister Petre Daea said farming subsidies for 2017 will be paid starting October 15.

He said staff of the paying agency will start field checks on Monday and documents for the granting of subsidies will be completed by October 1.

The payment of agriculture subsidies for 2016 ended on March 31, 2017, but the minister wants farmers to get subsidies the same year they do subsidized farm work. (puterea.ro)

 

Political Crisis Hurt Romanian Leu

The political crisis of the past weeks has hurt the Romanian currency, which reached a new low on June 21, at RON4.5987 to the euro.

This rate had not been reached since August 2012, when the Romanian head of state was suspended and the leu hit an all-time low of RON4.6481 to the euro. (romanialibera.ro)

 

Bucharest City Hall Gives RON2,500 Stimulus for Newborns

Starting Monday, parents may submit documents to get a RON2,500 stimulus for newborns from Bucharest city hall.

The city hall approved a decision a few weeks ago to give a financial stimulus of RON2,500 lei for each newborn, born in private or public maternity wards in Bucharest.

Also, at least one parent must be a resident of Bucharest. (puterea.ro)
