Insolvency Numbers Down in 1H/2018
The number of companies and authorized individuals that went insolvent in the first half of 2018 dropped 4.08% compared with the same period last year, to 4,486, Trade Registry data showed.
The largest number of insolvencies were registered in Bucharest with 897 (-14.73% on the year), followed by counties Bihor, 293 (+16.27%), Iasi, 259 (-12.79%), Constant, 239 (+14.9%), and Timis (+5.53%).
In June alone, 800 companies and authorized individuals in Romania went insolvent, news agency Agerpres reported.
By fields of activity, the largest number of insolvencies was registered in retail and wholesale activities, vehicle and auto repair.
Tariceanu Says ALDE Not Negotiating with Blaga or Ponta
Senate chairman and head of junior coalition party ALDE Calin Popescu Tariceanu said rumors going around in the past week that the party is negotiating a new parliamentary majority are false.
Tariceanu said Sunday on Facebook ALDE was not negotiating with Vasile Blaga and Victor Ponta to bring down the current social-democrat-led coalition to form a new majority.
He added the ruling coalition is sold and has “massive popular support”.
Basescu Urges Prime Minister Dancila to Resign
Senator Traian Basescu, Romania's former president, urged prime minister Viorica Dancila to step down from office following a series of embarrassing blunders in meetings with other heads of government.
"Please, leave the government, Mrs Dancila! What Liviu Dragnea doesn't get and what President Iohannis failed to get when he appointed you, Mrs Dancila, is that a prime minister is also a symbol of the nation, of the country, of the government, at home and abroad,” Basescu wrote on Facebook Sunday.
He said Dancila doesn't understand the ridiculousness of her situation nor the embarrassment she brings to the country in international relations by insisting to remain prime minister.
