Liberal Party Votes To Support Iohannis for Second Presidential Term

Romania's Liberal Party, in opposition, voted to support President Klaus Iohannis for a second term as head of state in the 2019 election if he decides to run.

The party also voted to back its leader Ludovic Orban for prime minister.

Of 817 votes expressed, 793 were in favor of backing Iohannis for a second presidential term.

 

Bucharest-Ilfov Area Champions Car Registrations in 2017

Romanians in the Bucharest-Ilfov and North-West areas registered the largest number of passenger and cargo vehicles in 2017, data from the statistics institute showed.

Registrations of passenger cars in Bucharest-Ilfov accounted for 18.6% of the total, and in the North-West they stood at 14.5%. Only 10,2% of passenger vehicles were registered in the South-East region and 10.3% in the South.

Passenger vehicle registrations grew 57.2% on the year in 2017, to 638,485 units, the data showed. Of these, 17% were new cars and the rest were used.

 

Ruling Social Democrats Want Euro Adoption by 2024

Romania's ruling Social Democratic Party voted the country should adopt the single European currency by 2024.

Party president Liviu Dragnea said he wants to propose political consensus on euro-adoption and the establishment of a calendar on December 1.

 

Union Urges Dismissal of Penitentiary Administration Chief

The SINPEN 2016 Constanta union calls on prime minister Viorica Dancila to fire the manager of the national administration of penitentiaries and the management of the Poarta Alba prison, citing abusive practices.

The union said management breached legal provisions in professional evaluations and unilaterally changed working schedules at the Poarta Alba penitentiary in 2017.
