Government Says No To Bicycle Vouchers

The government will not support a bill approved by the Senate on granting subsidies for bicycle purchases, saying the measure would lead to overshooting the 3% of GDP deficit target.

The government document rejecting support for the measure shows subsidies for bicycles for public sector employees would cost around RON1.2 billion.

MP Valeriu Steriu submitted a bill in Parliament on the granting of vouchers by employers to encourage employees to bike to and from work and on work related errands.

The bill was approve din Senate and the Chamber of Deputies is the decisional chamber. (mediafax.ro)

 

Transelectrica Board Chairman Ion-Toni Teau Resigns

Transelectrica chairman of the board Ion-Toni Teau resigned at the end of last week, sources in the energy industry told MEDIAFAX.

Teau was executive general manager and chairman of the management board since May 2014 and his term was to end in September 2017. (mediafax.ro)

 

Nine in Ten Students Learn Two Foreign Languages in School

Over 95% of students in Romania were studying two or more foreign languages in school in 2015, the highest percentage in the region, and language skills attract investments in service centers, a field that has become a growth driver.

“Foreign language skills are a major reason why companies come to Romania. They find competence and a large mass of young professionals,” said Sorin Faur, HR coordinator of audit and consultancy firm BDO for Eastern Europe and the Balkans. (mediafax.ro)

 

ANRE: Energy Distributors To Install Smart Meters for Consumers

Romania's energy regulator ANRE has launched a draft order proposing the installation of smart meters for electricity consumers.

The price of the meters would be included in electricity bills.

The implementation plan is to have two stages, with at least 30% of end-consumers covered in 2017-2020, and the rest by 2026. (mediafax.ro)
