Weekly Export Risk Outlook, January 28

01.29.2015 ZF English

The conflict in eastern Ukraine has no end in sight and it is really hurting the economies of both Ukraine and Russia, Euler Hermes noted in this week's Export Risk Outlook report.

Ukraine is experiencing a full-blown balance-of-payments crisis as the local currency, hrivna, has lost half of its value over the past year and foreign currency reserves dwindled, Euler Hermes analysts wrote in this week's report.

On the other hand, Standard and Poor's downgraded Russia's ratings to junk status, and the European Union considers new sanctions against Russia.

The Euler Hemres report also analyzes confidence and housing data from the US, the results of elections in Greece and the surprising decisions of the Bank of Canada. See more information about the European and global economies, in the full report.
