BNR: March Overdue Loan Payments Up 63% On Year To RON16.4B

Overdue payments on loans worth at least 20,000 lei (EUR4,850) rose to RON16.4 billion in February, 62.7% higher on the year, Romanian central bank data showed Friday.

Compared with February, overdue loan payments inched up 1.1%, the data showed.

Overdue loans as share of total debt rose to a fresh high at 7.05% at the end of March, from 6.9% a month earlier.

The number of Romanian corporate and household debtors reached 941,354 million in March, of which 223,163 had past due payments.

Total loans and commitments assumed by Romanian lenders stood at RON271.3 billion in March, up 6.3% from the same month of 2010. (EUR1=RON4.1208)
