Private Pension Funds' Net Assets Seen At 1.35% of GDP By Yearend

The net assets of Romania’s private pension funds will reach 1.35% of the gross domestic product by the end of the year, from 0.96% at the end of March 2011, according to estimations of pension system regulator CSSPP.

In the first quarter of the year, private pension funds' net assets stood at 5.25 billion lei (about EUR1.2 billion), of which RON4.89 billion on the mandatory private pension segment (Pillar II) and RON0.36 billion on the voluntary private pension segment (Pillar III), said CSSPP.

Compared to December 2010, the value of total net assets increased by 12.6%.

Some 66.99% of assets were invested in state treasuries, whose total value hit RON3.52 billion at the end of March.

The share of assets placed in equity increased to 15.08% in the first quarter of the year, from 12.35% end-2010.

According to CSSPP data, shares listed on the Bucharest bourse accounted for 11.82% of the funds' assets, from 9.21% in December 2010.

The weight of EU-listed shares increased to 3.26% at the end of March, from 3.14% at the end of 2010. (EUR1=RON4.1315)
