Romanian Central Bank Has A Program To Encourage Lending In Lei

The three consecutive cuts of the key monetary policy rate from 6.25% to 5.5% made by the central bank since November last year and the constant liquidity boosts through repurchase agreements (lending Romanian lei to banks in exchange for government bonds) are part of a program of stimulating lending in the local currency, says Adrian Vasilescu, advisor to central bank governor Mugur Isarescu.
