Bucharest Stocks Close Mildly Weaker, In Dull Trading

The Bucharest stock market ended a tad lower Monday, after a lackluster session with very low trading volumes, as investors were drawn to Nuclearelectrica’s initial public offering.

Nuclearelectrica sells 10% of its stock in an IPO that started today and retail investors get a discount if buying shares in the first three days of the offering. By the end of the session, subscriptions reached 86% of the shares allotted to small retail investors.

The BET index was down 14.29 points, or 0.25%, to 5,729.5, while composite index BET-C lost 3.85 points, or 0.13%, to 3,021.13.

Banca Transilvania (TLV.RO) closed down 0.93%, at 1.382 lei (EUR0.3) per share, while Fondul Proprietatea (FP.

RO) fell 0.22% to RON0.676 per share. On the other hand, BRD-Groupe Societe Generale (BRD.RO) gained 0.36%.

BET-FI, the index that tracks Fondul Proprietatea and the five regional investment funds (SIFs), was down a mere 0.02%, while the extended blue-chip index BET-XT dropped 0.14%.

Bucharest benchmark index BET-BK was up 0.09%, while energy stocks tracker BET-NG closed 0.11% lower.

The bourse’s traded value was the lowest in 11 months, with share transfers nearing RON4.8 million (EUR1.1 million). (EUR1=RON4.4705)
