Leu Ends Slightly Down Vs Euro In Quiet Session

09.09.2013 By Bogdan Neagu

The Romanian leu closed Monday below 4.47 per euro, after a minor drop in early hours, while the transferred volumes remained reduced.

The leu opened close to 4.48 to the euro, weaker than Friday closing levels, and touched the day’s low at 4.481 to the euro before recouping the lost ground in later trades.

It closed at 4.467/4.47 against the euro, close to 4.465/4.467 against the euro Friday.

“The market was quiet and the recovery might be due to a slightly more upbeat sentiment in the region,” a dealer said.

The central bank set the leu’s exchange rate at 4.4705 per euro, a tad stronger than the 10-week low of 4.4725 per euro announced on Friday.

On the money market, overnight rates were little changed to 3.7%-4.2% a year, from 3.8%-4.3% a year in the previous session.
