Leu Ends Slightly Higher Vs Euro, In Line With Regional Trend

The Romanian leu traded below 4.43 versus the euro by closing time Wednesday, in line with the upward trend of the other currencies in the region.

The leu closed at 4.427/4.429 to the euro, compared with 4.439/4.442 to the euro at Tuesday close.

Romania’s currency opened at 4.438 per euro, but it soon turned to gains, touching an early high at 4.425 units, before returning towards the 4.43 level by mid-day, on rising volumes.

The central bank set the leu’s exchange rate at 4.4304 per euro, from 4.443 per euro in the previous day.

On the money market, overnight rates were down to 1.3%-1.8% a year, from 1.8%-2.3% a year Tuesday.
