Leu Ends Stronger Vs Euro, After Calm Session

The Romanian leu strengthened in late session Friday, trading around 4.47 units in a market with average transferred volumes, dealers said.

The leu closed at 4.4695/4.472 to the euro, from 4.485 to the euro at Thursday closing.

It had opened at 4.4795/4.4815 per euro and stayed slightly below 4.48 units in early trade, on low volumes. It later entered an increasing path, reaching the days high at 4.465 per euro in the second half of the session.

The other currencies in the region were also growing slightly against the euro, on low traded values.

Romania’s central bank set the leu’s reference rate at 4.4771 per euro, from a 11-week low of 4.4847 per euro on Thursday.

On the money market Friday morning, overnight rates were stable at 2.6%-3.1% a year.
