The Romanian leu closed stronger versus the euro Tuesday, ignoring the negative trend of the other currencies in the region in the second half of today's session.

The local currency opened near yesterday’s closing levels and traded between 4.439 and 4.444 units in the first half of the session. In the second half, the leu gained little ground and touched the day's high at 4.4365 per euro on low traded volumes.

In other markets, the Hungarian forint was down 0.35% and the Polish zloty fell 0.2% against the European currency.

The Romanian central bank set the leu’s exchange rate at 4.4425 per euro, slightly weaker than 4.4415 per euro the day before.

On the money market, overnight rates were slightly up at 0.8%-1.3% a year from 0.6%-1.1% a year Monday.
