Leu Ends Weaker Vs Euro On Negative Sentiment

Romania’s leu retreated against the euro Thursday and closed 0.6% weaker on the day at 4.114/4.116 units, amid growing aversion to risk from investors.

Wednesday, the leu closed at 4.087/4.09 per euro.

The national currency opened down at 4.098/4.099 per euro and further lost ground, amid a negative sentiment in the region.

Romanian central bank set the leu's reference at 4.0997 to the euro, nearly 0.4% weaker on the day. Against the US dollar, the leu's indicative lost 2.2% on the day to 2.8978 units.

On the money market, overnight rates rose modestly to 2.8%-3.3% a year, from 2.7%-3.2% a year Wednesday.
