Leu Extends Decline Vs Euro, Nears 4.43 Units

The Romanian leu continued its decline against the euro in the second half of Thursday session, in line with the trend in the region.

The leu closed at 4.427 to the euro, from 4.415 to the euro on Wednesday.

It had opened down, at 4.419 units, and lost ground during the session, touching the day's low at 4.428 towards closing time.

Elsewhere in the region, the Hungarian forint was down 0.4% against the euro, while the Polish zloty was flat.

The Romanian central bank set the leu’s reference rate at 4.4208 per euro, 0.3% weaker on the day.

On the money market, overnight rates were up to 1.5%-2% a year, from 0.4%-0.8% a year Wednesday.
