The Romanian leu opened around 4.47 against the euro Wednesday and stayed near the opening level in the first part of the session, in a quiet market, dealers said.

At around 10:45 local time (GMT0845), the leu traded at 4.47/4.473 to the euro, similar to the closing level on Tuesday, when the leu lost ground on high corporate demand for hard currency.

Tuesday, the central bank set the leu’s exchange rate at 4.4643 per euro, the weakest in two weeks.

On the money market Wednesday morning, overnight rates stayed low, at 0.7%-1.2% a year.
