Leu Rises Vs Euro On Higher Volumes

The Romanian leu rose against the euro in early trade Wednesday, as the volumes were increasing, dealers said.

The euro opened at 4.5265 to the euro, stronger than 4.529/4.531 to the euro at Tuesday close. The local currency further gained ground and traded at around 4.5185/4.5205 to the euro at 10:20 local time (GMT0820).

Tuesday, the Romanian central bank set the leu’s exchange rate at 4.526 per euro, from 4.5366 per euro in the previous session.

On the money market Wednesday morning, overnight rates stayed around 0.5%-1% a year.
