Leu Rises Vs Euro On Low Volumes

The Romanian leu rose against the euro in early session Monday, on very low transferred volumes, dealers said.

The leu opened at 4.4255/4.4280 to the euro, from 4.4300/4.4320 to the euro at Friday close.

It later traded between 4.4250 and 4.4280 units on very low transferred volumes.

In the region, the Hungarian forint and the Polish zloty were gaining about 0.5% against the European currency, on reduced volumes as well.

On Friday, the Romanian central bank set the leu’s exchange rate at 4.4367 per euro, about 0.2% stronger on the day.

On the money market Monday morning, overnight rates stayed at around 3.25%-3.75% a year.
