Leu Stays Around 4.55 Vs Euro On Low Volumes

The Romanian leu traded around 4.45 against the euro in early session Wednesday, as transferred volumes were once again reduced after several days of increased attention.

The leu opened at 4.45 per euro, slightly changed from 4.4515/4.4525 per euro at Tuesday closing.

On Tuesday, the leu touched a five-month high at 4.437 to the euro during the session, but eased towards 4.45 units in the afternoon. The traded volumes were the largest in two months yesterday, according to dealers.

Wednesday morning, the trading was calm, and the leu varied between 4.4465 and 4.4505 units.

The central bank set Tuesday the leu’s exchange rate at 4.4403 per euro, the strongest since early December.

On the money market Wednesday morning, overnight rates were stable at 3.4%-3.9% a year.
