Shares Open Down, Amid Low Investor Interest

The Bucharest bourse opened Monday on a downward trend, while investors showed little interest early in the session, focusing mainly on investment fund Fondul Proprietatea (FP.RO).

At around GMT1043, the Bucharest Stock Exchange's composite index BET-C was down 0.86% while 10-share blue-chip index BET was falling 0.94%.

BET-FI, the index tracking the Proprietatea fund and the five regional investment funds, or SIFs, was down 0.52%.

The BET Extended index, or BET-XT, which tracks the top 25 blue-chips, was down 0.8%, while energy companies tracker BET-NG was declining 0.62%.

Trades unfolded on the Bucharest Stock Exchange by GMT0746 amounted to 1.34 million lei (EUR), much less than Friday's overall traded value of more than RON7 million at around the same time.

Popular stock early Monday included the Proprietatea fund, Banca Transilvania (TLV.RO), SIF Muntenia (SIF4.RO), Oltchim (OLT.RO) and OMV Petrom (SNP.RO). (EUR1=RON4.106)
