ACEA: Romanian New Car Registrations Fell 17% In Jan-Apr

The Romanian auto market decreased by 17% in the first four months of the year compared to the same interval in 2010, while the EU car market dropped 2.7%, according to data released Tuesday by the European Carmakers Association (ACEA).

New car registrations in Romania saw a decline of 17% in January-April, to 14,678 units.

In April 2011, the number of new car registrations on the local market stood at 4,999 units, down 43.7% compared to the same interval last year.

New car registrations in the EU decreased by 2.7% in the first four months of 2011 compared to January-April 2010, to 4.674 million units. In April, the EU car market shrank 4.1%, to 1.089 million units.

Romanian carmaker Dacia, owned by French group Renault, registered a 1.2% decline in the number of new car registrations on the EU market in the first four months of the year, to 84,070 units.

In April, Dacia's car registrations in EU increased by 2.1% to 20,294 units.

The German auto market increased 10.7% in January-April, to 1.029 million units. New car registrations in France saw an increase of 4%, to 817,000 cars, while the Italian auto market dropped 19%, to below 672,000 registrations.

New car registrations in the UK declined 8.5% in the first four months of the year, to 696,000 units and the Spanish auto market decreased by over 26%, to about 280,000 units.

Carmakers Volkswagen, General Motors, BMW and Daimler registered an increase in registrations on the EU market in January-April, while PSA, Renault, Ford, Fiat and Toyota saw a decrease in new car registrations.
