Romanian auto repair shops might be required to allow their customers to watch the work being done to their vehicles, according to a bill to be debated next week by the Parliament, democrat liberal deputy Adrian Badulescu said Wednesday.

Customers would be able to watch the work either on the scene or through cameras installed by the shop. If the shop does not let the customer watch, it may be denied payment.

According to the bill, the customer may refuse to sign the estimate and to pay, if the quality of the work is unsatisfactory.

Badulescu warned that this contestation system will need to be carefully regulated, as it could block the activity of both shop and customer. The National Association of Automobile Repair Companies agreed with his sentiment, adding that installing cameras in car repair shops might be too expensive.
