Dairy producer Danone Romania reported sales worth RON456 million in 2014, down 5% compared to the previous year, thus the company ranks second among local dairy producers, after Albalact, the company said Thursday.

Danone continues to be the market leader on the yogurt segment, with a 50% market share.

“Keeping a healthy business and building a solid ground for the upcoming years sometimes involves major decisions and this was our case in 2014. Their positive impact can be seen in the first half of 2015, by the growth of the products in the active health, children and indulgence ranges,” stated Dieter Schulz, general manager Danone SE Europe.

The company’s Bucharest-based plant processes around 50 million liters of milk annually, with 98% coming from Romanian partner farms in 2014.

The plant also serves other European markets.

Starting 2013, Romania serves as the company's headquarters in the southeast Europe region, which includes Romania, Bulgaria, Greece and countries in the Adriatic Sea area, a market of more than 60 million consumers.

Since 1999, Danone invested RON340 million in its Romanian operations.

Danone Romania is part of French group Danone, operating in 120 countries.
