Romanian renewable power output is poised to grow 80% to 31.4 TWh by 2020, from 17.2 TWh in 2010, fueled by higher wind power production, according to estimates from Enel Green Power, a unit of Italy’s utility Enel.

Enel Green Power forecasts an annual growth of renewable energy production of 6.2% over the next ten years in Romania.

The company estimates a total installed capacity of renewable energy of 12.6 GWh in 2020, from 7.1 GWh in 2010.

Romanian power output stood at 59 TWh in 2010. Coal energy amounted to 38% of total production, followed by hydro (28%), nuclear (18%), natural gas (14%), oil (1%), wind (0.5%) and biomass (0.05%).

Founded in 2008, Enel Green Power is the renewable energy arm of Italy's Enel.

The company operates in Europe and the American continent.

Enel Green Power is developing three windfarms in Romania, with a total capacity of 180 MWh. Additionally, Enel group is slated to start construction of a 48 MWh project in Moldova Noua in the coming period.
