INS: Romania's Power Output +2.3% On Year, Resources +3.2% In FIrst Quarter

Romanian power output rose 2.3% on the year to 5.93 million tons of oil equivalent in the first quarter, while the country’s primary energy resources increased 3.2% to 8.6 million tons of oil equivalent, official data showed Monday.

Electric energy resources rose 8.7% on the year to 17.14 billion kilowatts hour in the first quarter, fueled by a 9.8% increase in production, Romania's statistics institute INS said.

It said thermal power output was up 9.4% on the year to 9.02 billion KWh, while hydropower production increased 14.8% to 4.9 billion KWh.

Nuclear power production advanced 3.4% on the year to 3 billion KWh in the first quarter.

Romanian final power consumption reached 13.6 billion KWh in January to March, up 2.9% from the same period of 2010.

Public illumination increased 12.7% on the year, while household consumption rose 2.2%.

Total power imports increased 5.3% on the year to 2.7 billion tons of oil equivalent.
