German drug maker Boehringer Ingelheim on Thursday said its turnover in Romania was at 100.6 million lei (EUR24.7 million) last year, up 27.6% from RON78.8 million in 2009, mainly fueled by exports.

Prescription drugs generated some 85% of the company's revenue in 2010, namely RON87.2 million, while the over-the-counter drugs brought sales of RON13.4 million.

For this year, the company plans to grow higher than the market average.

The Romanian pharmaceutical market is expected to increase by 7.4% this year, to RON10.95 billion, according to research company IMS Health Romania.
