Adjusted Construction Works Up 5% On Month In May

Romanian construction works rose 5% on the month in May, fueled by increased activity in all sectors, the statistics institute INS said Friday.

New constructions advanced 5.6% in May from a month earlier, while capital repair and maintenance works were up 10.1% and 8.6% on the month, respectively. The data are adjusted for number of working days and seasonal factors.

On an annual basis, adjusted construction works rose 16.5% in May, supported by two-digit growth in most sectors.

New constructions increased 29.6% on the year in May, while maintenance works were up 14.4%, the data showed. On the other hand, capital repair works declined 7.5% on the year in May.

In unadjusted data, Romanian construction works rose 21.8% on the month in May, and were up 21.1% compared with the same month of 2011.

In January through May, unadjusted construction works increased 10.8% on the year, while adjusted works advanced 9.4%, INS data showed.
