Tourist Arrivals Up 11.5% On Year In May

Tourist arrivals in Romania rose 11.5% in May from the year-earlier month, while overnight accommodations were up 10.3% on the year, the statistics institute INS said Tuesday.

Residents accounted for 73.5% of total arrivals at accommodation establishments in April, while foreigners made up for the reminder 26.5%.

The vast majority of foreign visitors (93.3%) came from Europe, the data showed.

In January through May, tourist arrivals and overnight accommodations rose by 12.9% and 8.5% on the year respectively.

Romanian tourist departures abroad inched down 1.4% on the year in the first five months.
