Romanian industrial sales dropped 8.9% in April, after a two-digit growth a month earlier, due to falling demand across the board, the country’s statistics institute INS said Friday.

In March, industrial sales rose 22.3% on the month.

Mining sales declined 18.8% in April from a month earlier, while manufacturing sales were down 8.5%, the data showed.

By sector, sales of capital goods fell 15.9% on the month in April, while sales of durable and consumer goods decreased 11.9% and 6.6%, respectively. Energy and intermediate goods sales declined 6.1% and 5.7% on the month, respectively.

On an annual basis, industrial sales rose 4.6% in April, on higher sales in all sectors.

Mining sales increased 8% in April compared with the same month of 2011, while manufacturing sales were up 4.5% on the year.

In January through April, Romanian industrial sales rose 2.3% on the year, again fueled by increases in all sectors.
