Patriciu Launches First Macro Store In Brasov

05.19.2011 By Andrei Circhelan

Romanian businessman Dinu Patriciu on Thursday inaugurated the first unit of retail chain Macro, which required an investment of more than EUR500,000.

The Macro network is owned by the Mercadia group, where Patriciu holds the majority stake.

Depending on the results of the unit launched today in Brasov, Patriciu said he intends to invest in launching at least three such stores in the city.

"These Macro stores supply the Micro stores, and the two are similar, but the Macro offer is more varied. I don't call them stores. The little ones (Mic.ro) I call «grocery shops», and the big ones (Macro) I call «marketplaces», because we hope producers will come sell their own goods there," Patriciu added.

Macro Brasov, a revamped unit of the former miniMax retail chain, has a retail surface of 960 sqm and a 60-space parking lot.

Mercadia Holland BV is a group of Romanian companies with a total 5,400 employees and sales of more than EUR460 million. The group is active in retail and HoReCa, through the networks Mic.ro, Macro and miniMax Discount, Bet Cafe Arena, BioGood, the Heritage and Madame Pogany's restaurants in Bucharest. The group has invested more than EUR50 million locally so far.
