Romanian Online Shopping, Dominated By Young Buyers

03.25.2016 By Gabriela Stan

Romanian e-commerce is dominated by young buyers, between 20 and 40 years old, while in the Czech Republic or Poland, clients buying clothes online can also be 55-60 years old, said Robert Berza, country manager of online fashion retailer ZOOT Romania.

Last year, nearly 2.7 million Romanians bought products online, spending EUR1.4 billion, up by approximately 30% compared with 2014, according to ZF calculations based on the data provided by the country’s statistics institute INS and market players.

Nearly 40% of the Romanians bought clothes and shoes online, followed by electronics, household appliances, cosmetics and perfumes. Over 10% of the total amount spent online last year was paid for fashion items.

Moreover, online players have permanently lured Romanians with massive online sales, so that they continue to chase such discounts.

Thus, although Romanians are more interested in their aspect than the Czechs, they are only attracted to buy online by keywords like “sales” and “discount“.

In the Czech Republic, ZOOT’s parent country, people usually buy at full price, as they only benefit from massive sales in January and August.
