Romtelecom provides fixed telephony and Internet services to approximately 130,000 out of the 400,000 small and medium-sized companies that operate in Romania, a figure that last year rose by 15% from 2009, according to company officials.

The operator thus accounts for around 33% of the entire market of SMEs and microenterprises.

"Small and medium-sized enterprises make up 80% of the total number of companies in the economy and bring around 35% in revenues," says Corina Paun, the manager in charge with operations with SMEs and microenterprises at Romtelecom.

Operations with such companies bring almost 10% of the telecom operator's total revenues, namely around EUR70-72million annually.

The biggest contracts signed so far in the SME sector amount to EUR350,000 a year, a sum paid by just two companies for the telecom services provided by Romtelecom, while another five companies in the unit's client portfolio spend around EUR100,000 a year to this end.
