Over 500,000 Phone Numbers Ported In Romania Since 2008

Over 500,000 telephone numbers were ported in Romania between October 2008 and May 16, 2011, most in mobile networks, according to the data of telecom regulator ANCOM.

More and more people changed their phone operator while retaining their telephone number since this service was opened in October 2008. By May 16, 2011, according to ANCOM, 500,224 numbers had been ported - 340,047 in mobile networks and 160,177 in landline networks.

Since the start of 2011, there have been 83,085 ports (60,824 mobile and 22,261 landline numbers) - more than 18,000 ports per month on average. Most of the ported numbers were registered in Bucharest (44,635), followed by the counties Cluj (10,785), Timis (10,756) and Prahova (8.568).

ANCOM data shows 73% of the mobile users who ported their number were subscribers; the rest used pre-paid cards.

Cosmote was the destination network for 126,671 ported mobile numbers, followed by Vodafone (107,041), Orange (101,973), RCS&RDS (3,645) and Telemobil (717).

The 160,177 ported landline numbers were transferred to the networks of 31 providers. The most popular were UPC Romania (54,395), RCS&RDS (38,995), Orange (27,000), Vodafone (21,606) and Romtelecom (10,599).
