Romtelecom’s 1Q Revenue Down 10.9% On Year To EUR166.3M

Romanian telecom operator Romtelecom’ revenues dropped 10.9% in the first quarter of the year compared to the same interval in 2010, to EUR166.3 million, and its earnings before interest, tax, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) fell 62.6%, to EUR22.2 million, according to the company's majority shareholder, Greek group OTE.

The telecom operator's first quarter revenues showed a moderate decline of 2.3% compared to the last quarter of 2010, OTE said in its financial report Friday.

The number of telephony lines stood at 2,572,887 at the end of March, down 5.1% from March 2010.

On the television service segment, the number of clients increased by 14.9%, to 1.064 million. The number of broadband customers climbed 24.5%, to 1.062 million.
