INS: Industrial Sales Rise 13% On Month In May

Romanian industrial sales increased 12.9% in May, after a 9% decline a month earlier, supported by higher demand in the manufacturing sector, the country’s statistics institute INS said Friday.

Manufacturing sales rose 13.5% in May from a month earlier, but mining sales were down 2.3%, the data showed.

By sector, sales of capital goods increased 18.8% on the month in May, while sales of durable and intermediate goods advanced 16.7% and 14%, respectively. Sales of consumer goods rose 13.6% on the month, but energy sales declined 4.8%.

On an annual basis, industrial sales rose 7.1% in May, on higher sales in all sectors.

Manufacturing sales increased 7.2% in May compared with the same month of 2011, while mining sales were up 3.8% on the year.

In January through May, Romanian industrial sales rose 3.5% on the year, again fueled by increases in all sectors.
