INS: Romania's 1Q Industrial Sales Up 24.3% On Year

Romanian industrial sales rose 24.3% on the year in the first quarter, mostly fueled by higher sales in the manufacturing sector, the country’s statistics institute INS said INS said Thursday.

Sales in the manufacturing industry increased 25.6% in the first quarter from the year-earlier period, while mining industry sales inched up 0.2%.

By sector, first-quarter sales in the intermediate goods industry were up 36.7% on the year, while sales in the capital and energy industries rose 31.2% and 23.2%, respectively.

In the durable goods industry, industrial sales increased 9.5% on the year in the first quarter, while consumer goods sales were up 4.5%, INS data showed.

In March alone, Romanian industrial sales advanced 17.7% from a month earlier and were up 21.2% compared with March 2010.
