INS: Trade Gap Widens To EUR2.6B In January-April

Romania’s trade deficit widened to EUR2.57 billion in the first four months of 2012, from EUR2.49 billion in the year-earlier period, the country’s statistics institute INS said Monday.

Exports inched up 0.7% on the year to EUR14.5 billion in January through April, while imports were up 1.1% to EUR17.1 billion.

Vehicles made up for the bulk of exports and imports, amounting to 41.1% of overall exports and 33.1% of the imports in the first four months, the data showed.

In April alone, Romania's trade deficit narrowed to EUR866.6 million, from EUR990.1 million in the year-earlier month.

Exports were at EUR3.5 billion in April, up 3.4% on the year, but imports inched down 0.2% to EUR4.38 billion.

Romania's trade deficit widened to EUR9.72 billion in 2011, from EUR9.53 billion a year earlier.
