Romanian industrial new orders fell 4.7% on the month in February, the fastest decline in the European Union, official data showed Wednesday.

In the European Union, industrial new orders rose 1.2% in February from a month earlier, EU's statistics office Eurostat said.

New orders rose in 13 member states for which data are available and fell in nine. The highest increases were registered in Denmark (+16.3%), Hungary (+10.9%) and Portugal (+5.4%), and the largest decreases in Romania, Lithuania (-2.7%) and the Czech Republic (-2.1%).

In February compared with the same month of 2010, Romanian industrial orders increased by 24.5%, the eighth biggest increase in the EU bloc. The EU's growth average was 19.8%.

New orders rose in all member states for which data are available. The highest increases were registered in Estonia (+60.1%), Denmark (+57.9%) and Latvia (+56.1%), and the lowest in the United Kingdom (+7.1%), Spain (+10.0%) and the Czech Republic (+12.5%).
