Romanian energy output fell 7.1% on the year to 3.56 million tons of oil equivalent in the first two months, hit by falling production in the thermal and nuclear power sectors, official data showed Friday.

Thermal power output decreased 18.8% on the year to 5.52 billion kilowatts hour, while nuclear production was down 2.1% to 1.99 billion KWh, the statistics institute INS said.

On the other hand, hydropower production rose 23.3% on the year to 2 billion KWh in January through February. A month earlier, output in the sector increased by 31% year-on-year.

Wind farm production increased to 873.6 million KWh in the first two months, from 440.7 million KWh in the same period of 2012.

Romania’s primary energy resources fell 7.3% on the year to 4.99 million tons of oil equivalent in January through February, the data showed.

Electric energy resources were down 5.6% to 10.53 billion KWh, due to a 4.6% decline in production.

Romanian final power consumption reached 8.77 billion KWh in the first two months, down 4.6% from the same period of 2012. Household consumption was stable on the year, but public illumination fell 8.6%.
