Romanian President Traian Basescu said Thursday a referendum on the administrative organization of Bucharest is not needed, as the Parliament is the body to decide whether the capital will continue to be organized into sectors.

Speaking at a conference organized by financial daily Ziarul Financiar, the head of state pointed out that Bucharest has seven councils and seven budgets, which entails making many compromises when taking decisions.

He stressed that the Parliament is the body empowered to take a decision on the capital's administrative organization.
