Boc: Romania To Soon Reach Record Number Of Work Contracts

Romanian acting Labor Minister Emil Boc said Friday that 228,820 new work contracts have been signed this month and a record number of contracts would be reached in about ten days.

Boc said there are currently 6,275,307 registered work contracts, almost as many as in November 2008 - 6,296,205, the highest number of contracts after 1989.

The minister added that many of the contracts signed this month, since the new Labor Code took effect, are for people who used to work illicitly.

Authorities have so far given out fines of around 10 million lei (EUR2.43 million) for illicit work.
